Four lovers are called before Theseus, Duke of Athens, to settle a dispute of the heart
Deciding to elope, they find themselves in the magical, passionate and sinister world of night, ruled over by the quarrelling King and Queen of the fairies. The dream turns to confused nightmare as the mischevious Puck meddles with the lovers, resulting in sword fights, cat fights and unbridled all consuming mis-placed love, as well as some amusement. Meanwhile, a group of hapless workmen are attempting to rehearse a play for Theseus' wedding day, and also fall prey to Puck's whims. All this and everything must be resolved by dawn...
