SUSO Presents: The Last Night of the Proms

The Southampton University Symphony Orchestra returns to Turner Sims for their final programme of this academic year

Come and join us for an afternoon of classical favourites at a ‘Last Night of the Proms’ styled concert. After a very successful first season with the orchestra, including a sold-out Turner Sims performance, Susanna Riddell guides this highly regarded orchestra through an eclectic, celebratory programme. Ranging from Vaughan-Williams’s serene ‘The Lark Ascending’ to the triumphant Ravel’s ‘Bolero’, the mischievousness of Enescu’s ‘Romanian Rhapsody to No. 1’, to the traditions of Edward Elgar and Henry Wood, this really is a concert with something for everyone!

Full Programme:

  • Wagner - Die Meistersinger Von Nurmberg: Prelude to Act I
  • Vaughan-Williams - The Lark Ascending
  • Enescu - Romanian Rhapsody No. 1
  • Ravel - Bolero
  • Mussorgsky - Intro and Gopak from Sorochinsky Fair
  • Bizet - Extracts from Carmen
  • Strauss - Champagne Polka
  • Henry Wood - Fantasia on British Sea Songs
  • Elgar - Pomp & Circumstance March No. 1
  • Marquez - Conga del Fuego
