Rightly regarded as one of the finest university symphony orchestras in the UK, the Southampton University Symphony Orchestra makes a welcome return to Turner Sims to perform one of Shostakovich’s most popular scores – Symphony No 10
The programme also includes two of Benjamin Britten’s best loved works, the evocative Four Sea Interludes and the ever-popular The Young Person’s Guide to the Orchestra.
The gala concert is the orchestra’s showcase performance of the season, featuring challenging works rarely taken on by university orchestras. This season saw the orchestra joined by new Music Director Susanna Riddell. Susanna’s approach to rehearsals and the professionalism she demands from the members has resulted in some extremely exciting ensemble playing from the orchestra. After a highly acclaimed concert in Southampton’s Central Hall, Susanna makes her debut with the orchestra in Turner Sims.
Turner Sims is a concert hall in Southampton University campus, and hosts a programme of world-class music including classical, jazz, world and folk.
